The Finale

Hi everyone! For the last time...

We had out big finale this week. We showed everyone our final presentation which we practiced on Monday. Or we should have. We didn't have it ready by then and we worked on it every day until Thursdays final show. The idea was to show everybody how we have developed the digital side of our business idea during the fall.

We worked on the video until the last minute and it so much fun to do! It wasn't easy to be in front of a camera and took about 30 takes before I got my own part filmed. Really good experience though.

Ilkka and Anna had planned an entertaining and positive show for the last week. We had many other lecturers and guest speakers visiting that day and every now and then Ilkka interviewed them between our presentations. It was fun to watch, it was made like a talk show :)

The presentation went well and everyone in the audience seemed to enjoy our video. I was also pleased with the result. Only thing that I wasn't so satisfied with was the quality of the video. We couldn't get a better camera from  anywhere. Otherwise, everyone in the group did really well. The video was also well scripted. Unfortunately I couldn't download it here from our google drive for some reason..but hope you've all seen it!

This course has ended here. I want thank all the people from my group, especially Sonja who got us together and all the other teams. Big hand for the visiting speakers and of course, Ilkka and Anna, thank you for the fun course! See you!

Merry Christmas,
Iiro

The second last week

Hello people!

Our second last week of the course consisted of two lectures and the test.

The first speaker was Mika Aittamäki who spoke about the differences of traditional and digital selling. The speech was filled with important points and it was one of the most useful ones we have had. After Mika, we had our own lecturer Ilkka Kurkela speaking about his observations on impressive communication. It was very interesting when he said that already Platon in his time recognized three areas of a successful speech. First is rational when the facts you tell make an effect. Secondly, the emotional side is very important. You have to manage to touch the listener's feelings. And third he mentioned was ethical. It's all about who you are what you have done in the past. What people thinks about you. And nowadays it's maybe the most important one. Couldn't agree more.

On Thursday we had the test and I think I did pretty well. Let's hope so, haven't got the results yet :)

Week 13

Hello!

Our list of interesting speakers continues..we had Katja Järveläinen from GAPPS making a visit. She told us about her company whose business idea is to sell and consult clients using Google tools. They have has very big companies as their clients and they have renewed their communication by these cloud services. I never knew that this kind of topic could be so interesting. GAPPS seemed like a company I would possibly want to work in the future. We had a fun task during the Monday. We had to wrap up everything that Katja said in one minute. It was not easy but the most fun! And it went surprisingly well :)

Our Digital coach Arman gave us a lecture about content marketing. He used Coca-Cola and Pepsi adverts as examples and they were a perfect choice for it. After the lecture some groups presented their "own lecture". Every team didn't have time to do it last time.

The rest of the week I prepared for the upcoming test. By the way, Taivas+Helvetti -books are absolutely magnificent ;)

See you next time everyone! Thanks!

What an inspiring week!

Hi people!

The 12th week was overall one of the most inspiring ones in the fall. Much different from previous one :)

On Monday we had two awesome and inspiring speakers. First we had pleasure to hear Jaakko Alasaarela who was there to speak about one main thing. Passion. And where it can get you. Everyone should write down dreams and goals in life. When you do, you are proven to be one in the 2% people who are mainly happier than others. Then you need passion and courage to get you there. And at least was inspired and convinced when he said that by doing it you can get everything you want. No matter how many times I have heard that, this time I believed in it. This guy clearly had exactly what he talked about. A walking example of passion! And when he mentioned Zlatan as an example, I was sold out :D

Our second speaker of day was Camilla Tuominen, the founder of Emotion Tracker. Her passion was psychology and she made it her profession. Well, not in the most traditional way, of course. She sees that emotions are something that can start something great. Emotions are unfortunately not talked about in business culture. How could one person change that. She developed an application called EmotionTracker. It helps you to realize what kind of feelings one has during a day and in which situations. It helps you to see if you're enjoying you life or, for example, way too stressed all the time. Camilla was someone that was easy to respect. She did things how she wanted them to be done and followed her heart and passion. She was a unique personality and so exciting to listen to.

Really exciting week and great speakers! Thanks Anna and Ilkka!!

Week of jurisdiction

Hi there!

Now we are talking about one of my favorite subjects: law. We had on Monday our school's lecturer Marjaana Marmo talking about the law that effect digital marketing.  Marjaana gave us two long lectures about the topic and although it sounds like a difficult subject to listen to in English, it was nothing but. Marjaana is such a professional in law matters and her English is also brilliant. The week somehow reminded me more of traditional way of schooling which was refreshing after a while. The tasks given on Monday were interesting and easy to understand as long as you realized what was the real problem inside them. We checked the right answers on Thursday and talked a lot about the reasons why we came to that solution. The main point was to understand the difference between Kauppalaki and Kuluttajansuojalaki so we talked about B2C- and B2B-sales. Marjaana also reminded us that the law is just another tool that we can (and have to!) use to get advantage in the business world. I also liked when she said: "A deal is always about minimizing the risks".

Thanks for the week everyone! Later!

Week 8

Hi everyone!

Our eighth week of the course seemed to last very long but it had exciting lectures and a nice task which I'm doing "a little late" (now). On Monday we had two speakers who I unfortunately did not see but I learned their points from others' blogs. Topics were really interesting, especially content and search engines which Terhi Aho was speaking to our group. It something I want to (and need to) learn more about.

On Thursday one of out digital coaches was speaking about lead nurturing. It is a word I have never heard before and maybe sounds a little inaccurate to its' meaning. Some of the things Bishnu talked about I did not understand but when I realized what it really means, I understood its' importance. Ilkka Kurkela also gave us a lecture. It it always inspiring to hear him speaking but the subject seemed pretty familiar and didn't give me so much new ideas.

The task for week eight was to read other students' blogs and give five of them some feedback. Here they are:

1.  Linda Knuutila's blog really pointed out from many others. It was full of high-quality pictures and she uses very good English language. It was easy to see what she was going to write about just from the headline. Easy to read and nice look at. Very visual.

2. Kevin Feng's blog also very pleasing to the eye. The colors were great and it was so easy to read. He reflected a lot what he has learned every week and that made it interesting to read. It is always good to see something personal.

3. Anton Remy has a good and simple style to write. I was always in the same level with his thoughts while reading his blog. He could use some pictures though :)

4. Paula Latvala's blog look very good! The pictures and the look made me feel cosy and relaxed. The front page is exceptionally simple (in a good way!) and her style to write makes her texts easy to read.

5. Tapani Marttala has his own style to write and it it fun to read. The colors in the page are not very well matching and I miss more photos there.

Thanks eveyone who gave me feedback! See ya!

Week 6

Hello!

On this week we had our lectures about visuality. We had two guest speakers. First one of our team coaches Faysan told us about photography. I'm not the most visual person myself but I like to take pictures every now and then and everyone likes a good looking picture. They also affect us in so many ways and tell so much more than words. In Faysan's presentation there came up a lot things I didn't know or hadn't really thinked about so much. He said that the best photographers invest a lot of money in it. It's true but on some level I disagree. A good picture doesn't always have to be "perfect". When a picture is taken at the right time and makes us think, it's a good one. In marketing purposes that may be true, though.

Our second speaker on Monday was Pekka Tuominen from DigiPeople Studios. He spoke about video strategy which was a relatively unknown topic for me. He had good why to choose video and how to make video popular and spread. He had many excellent points and it is difficult to disagree with him.

Our task for the week was to compare three companies'  from a business field of our choice. We decided to compare three companies that were doing the same business we are doing. Cafes and garages. It was one of the best group tasks we had because I learned practically many things and details that affect social media marketing.

Thank for reading! See you!
